FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I visit?

- Where do I park?

We meet in Vistancia Elementary School so there is plenty of available parking. Our signs will direct you into the closest parking and into the meeting space. Most of the year you will be greeted personally in the parking lot.

- What happens when I come into the worship area?

We have a fellowship time that begins at 9:30. When you arrive for the 10:00 a.m. worship you will find many people standing about talking and visiting, drinking coffee and munching on goodies. You'll be invited to join in the fellowship if you wish or you may move on to the seats. We do have name tags available and would encourage you to wear one. We also have a guest book which you will be invited to sign if you wish. Including your email will make it possible for us to send you our weekly e-newsletter so that you can learn more about us. You can unsubscribe at any time with no hassle.

- What about my children?

Spirit Song is a church that welcomes children. You have several options. If you wish, nursery care is available for infants to three. Other children are encouraged to stay with you for the first part of the service to join in the singing and a special children's time. Following children's time the four year olds through sixth grade are invited to Sunday school or they may remain with you.

We are kid friendly. One of the nice things about meeting in a school gym is there is plenty of space for little ones who like walking around in back or would like to play on the floor mat at the back.

- What happens in worship? What can I expect?

Our worship band will invite us to join in a call to worship with words projected on the screens at the front and we'll stand to sing a few praise songs and a hymn and open with prayer. There will be a special children's time, a time for prayers of the people, and offering. As a guest you need not feel obligated to participate in the offering unless you wish to contribute to our ministries. Our service is a gift for you. The service continues with another hymn or praise song, the reading of the scripture and the message given by the pastor. This is followed by another praise song and benediction. Following the service people are invited to continue in a time of fellowship.

Occasionally there will be special moments inserted in the service. Sometimes people share about a ministry opportunity they participated in. You might arrive on a Sunday that new members are joining or someone is being baptized. We may have communion following the sermon. On communion Sundays you will hear an invitation that assures you that communion in our church is not denominationally based. We believe the communion table is the Lord's Table of Grace and it is Jesus who invites you to participate so all are welcome. You will receive a piece of the bread and be invited to dip it in the grape juice and take the two elements together as symbols of Christ's offering for us. You need not participate if you do not want to.

- What happens after I visit?

If you left an email address you'll receive our weekly e-newsletter to help you learn more about us. You may wish to check out the website found on the bulletin you received. If you left your address you'll receive a thank you card for joining us. If you left a phone number, we'll likely call and ask how you enjoyed our service. We have two intentions with followup. We want to give you the opportunity to ask questions and we want you to know we hope you'll come again. In addition, we are interested in hearing about your experience with us because we are always trying to be more welcoming.

- Is the church handicap accessible?

Yes. Everything is on one level and the doorways are wide and their are handicap stalls in the rest rooms. We encourage those who do not stand in worship to sit closer to the front or on the isles or out in the isle a bit, so that you can see the words on the screen even when others are standing.

About this growing young church...

- What are your worship services like?
We offer a contemporary style of worship with "a touch of the traditional." We have a great band that leads us in singing the latest praise music as well as occasional hymns. Our services are informal but spiritual, with Biblical messages and intentional prayer.

- Do you offer nursery and Sunday School?
Yes we do! Nursery is available for children 3 and under. Sunday school is offered for children ages 4 through 6th grade. We also offer adult classes at various times through the year.

- Do you have property?
No, not yet, although that certainly is our dream and long-range goal. We pray for God's guidance concerning the timing and location of building. We know that we are the church as a body of people who love Jesus and love serving our neighbors with or without a building.

- How do I become a member?
Just contact the church office, 623-824-1357, for the necessary forms and to set up a pastoral visit. The requirements for membership include baptism as an infant or as an adult, or being baptized when joining, and a commitment to abide by the vows of membership.
