It's a Different World

The world has changed a lot since the last time I started a new church. In 1996, when I began New Song United Methodist Church in Surprise, the Internet was just beginning to be a factor. Although I put together a simple website, it was not a major component of my church planting process. In those early days I knocked on doors and tried to introduce myself to as many people as I could, inviting them to join me in the exciting adventure of starting a new church.

It's eleven years later (and I'm eleven years older) and the world has changed for church planters. People are not as receptive to strangers knocking on their doors, they screen their phone calls, and they are much more connected to the Internet. Today there are blogs, MySpace pages, and interactive websites that create on-line communities that transcend international boundaries.

The world has changed but in one respect it hasn't changed at all -- the world still needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.

Each day I hope to share more about my experiences of starting a new church in the challenging world of the 21st century.

    Steve,

Your website looks really good and I wanted to be one of the first to "blog" you back.

You're right,'sooo' much has changed -- yet more than ever the world needs the kind of love we see in Jesus.

A love that sees creation as God's gift and every person as God's child.

    Bless you in your ministry,

    Tom :-)
