It's Raining in Phoenix
Yes, it’s raining in Phoenix, which is a good thing, since we’re in the midst of a long drought. Until November 29th we had 2.75 inches of rain all year. We live in a desert but still, that’s not very much. Phoenix averages about 7 inches per year, so that’s less than half. But then it started raining and now we’re up over 5 inches with a good chance to make it to the seven.
Driving in the rain in Phoenix is kind of scary. First, because it’s so rare, people kind of freak out. I tell people that a quarter inch on rain in Phoenix is the equivalent of an inch of snow anywhere else. People just don’t know how to drive when it gets a little wet. Freeways slow to a crawl, there are accidents everywhere and people just seem to go a little nuts.
The great thing about living in Phoenix in the winter is that you can enjoy 60 degree or even 70 degree days but only a quick two-hour drive up the freeway you can be at 6,000 feet and in two feet of snow. Right now Flagstaff has about a foot of new snow and more is falling. I’ve seen the pictures on TV (of course they have to send a reporter up there to do a “live” report of the snow falling – breaking news!) The pictures are pretty and part of me would like to be there, but then again, I’m pretty comfortable being down here where it’s a little wet but relatively warm.
I hope wherever you are, in rain or snow, that you are safe and enjoying this Christmas season.
Blessings,
Steve
