Pet Peeves

I’m not really a complainer but there are just some things that people do that aggravate me. I’m sure you have your own pet peeves. Here are a few of mine…

I know people like to celebrate birthdays but it annoys me when I’m in a nice restaurant and in the middle of my meal a half dozen waiters and waitresses come out clapping and hooting, and then try to sing some semblance of a Happy Birthday song that never really sounds like a song at all. I would expect it at a place like Chucky Cheese but they even do it now in nice restaurants. It’s a small thing, I know, but it still annoys me.

Here’s another that I know you can relate to. I recently helped my daughter setup her new widescreen TV. The cables came in one of those see-through sealed plastic containers that you need a hacksaw or some C-4 explosives to open. Why do companies sell you a product that you can’t get out of the package?

I was driving one day when I radio commercial came on with sirens and honking horns. I panicked and immediately looked in my rear view mirror trying to see what emergency vehicle was coming my way before I realized it was a commercial. I don’t know about you but I think they should ban radio commercials that include sirens, horns honking or other traffic sound effects.

Speaking of commercials, it drives me crazy that the television commercials always seem to be twice as loud as the show. When a commercial comes on I either have to turn down the sound or I mute it entirely.

My wife says I’m beginning to sound like a grumpy old man. I suppose I am. But there are just a few things that people do that annoy me. And I know I’m not the only one. But I pray for patience and a forgiving heart, and I try not to let these little complaints ruin the beautiful day that the Lord has given me.

Blessings,

Steve

Ah, yes, the "singing Happy Birthday" pet peeve. And, louder commercials than regular programming. Steve, have you been listening in on our home conversations? It really is okay, though. Your inner "grumpy old man" is in great company!
