Things I'm Thankful For

Well, it’s Thanksgiving and a time when we are especially mindful of all our blessings. As we have done in years past, this year we will go around the table and share one thing we are thankful for. Usually it’s for the love of family, and I’m certainly thankful for the love of a devoted wife, my two daughters and two grandchildren. I’m thankful that my mom is doing so well at the age of 83, although I miss my dad. I’m thankful for good friends who seem willing to overlook my faults and to support me in whatever I do.

I’m thankful for my health. I’m getting to that age where you start to hear of people of similar years succumbing to illness and yes, even death. Although I can’t do some of the things I could ten years ago (like play basketball) I still feel vital and healthy. Speaking of basketball, now that I can’t go out and play like I used to, I love playing “NBA Live 08” on my computer. I even have a PSP, which I play when I travel (and sometimes get strange looks from people wondering why a grown man is playing video games). If I had the money (and Christmas is coming, so there’s always a chance) I would love a Playstation 3. Have you seen the graphics on these high-end game machines? Incredible! You can actually see the players sweat!

I’m also thankful for the opportunities to travel. Sue and I both love to travel and have now been to Europe several times. We’re planning a Mediterranean cruise next June that will take us to Venice, Croatia, Greece and Turkey. That should be fun. I’m thankful for my God-given ability and talent for art, which I use in my ministry and for relaxation. I’m thankful for a sense of humor and the ability not to take myself or others too seriously. I thank God for the life he has given me, for all my blessings (which are many), and most of all, for my saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

I’m thankful to be living in Arizona where the temperature on Thanksgiving will be in the high 70’s (and always sunny!) I could go on and on, but isn’t it nice that there is one day when we can all acknowledge and give thanks to God for what we have received by his hand.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Steve
