“…and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true
righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:24)
Devotion: When we accept Christ into our lives, we become a
new kind of person. We have done away with the old way of life with its earthly
desires and we have, as Paul says, “put on” a new self. This does not mean that
the Christian life is something you can put on and take off whenever you feel
like it. Some people do feel like they put on a Christian veneer when they come
to church on Sunday but can take it off when they get home and go back to their
“normal” lives. But when we “put on” Christ we adopt a new way of thinking and
acting that is Christ-like and becomes an integral part of who we are. We
undergo a radical change in perceiving the world that leads us to “true righteousness
and holiness.”
Prayer: Holy God, help me to be that new person in Christ.
Give me a new heart filled with love and a mind that is focused only on Christ
and service to the world. Amen.
