“Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?”
(Galatians 4:16)
Devotion: Paul always told the truth even when he risked
anger in return. How often do we refrain from telling someone the truth because
we are afraid of their response or of losing a friendship? Or how often do we
become angry when someone has the courage to tell us the truth that we don’t
want to hear? If a friend tells you the truth, no matter how painful it might
be, receive their words with humility and with trust. Think carefully about
what they have said and seek to rectify your ways. And when you have the
opportunity, speak the truth in love.
Prayer: O God, help me to tell your truth with a loving
heart and to receive difficult truths with an open heart. May your word of
truth be spoken in my life. Amen.
